Sets and clocks are provided. Tell us what you play, or what you’d like to learn.
We’ll pair you with someone at your level — total beginner or table shark.

Chess and Backgammon online with your neighbors, plus a few new ways to play: free Laurels to challenge for, Gems for entries and prizes, and club-verified coaches. Every member can play, including free Pawn members.
Live games from 1-minute bullet to 30-minute classical, correspondence at your own pace, arena tournaments, puzzles, and club ratings with a leaderboard.
Our chouette nights, any night. Join a chouette of 3 to 6 players (box, captain and crew, a cube for each partner) or play head to head.
Earned free by playing: 100 when you join, 10 a day and 5 for every finished game. Stake them when you challenge a member. Top the season's leaderboard to wear the Laurel Crown 👑.
Club credit at 10 Gems for $1. Use them for tournament entries online and on Club Events, and to pay club coaches for reviews, simuls, clinics and courses. Members 18+ playing from Texas can also stake them in Chess challenges.
Free to enter, club-funded Gem prizes. Beat one of our coaches in a rapid game to win the bounty. One try a week per bounty, and a loss costs you nothing.
Chess and Backgammon coaches can apply for a verified 🎓 Coach badge and a coach profile. Approved coaches run simuls, clinics and courses in Coach Studio and earn a fee in dollars.
Our verified 🎓 coaches now run live events and courses on Strategem Play.
Pay with Gems you bought. If a coach cancels, you get every Gem back.
The first simuls and clinics are being scheduled now. Follow a coach on Strategem Play to hear the moment they open.
Fair dice you can checkEach Backgammon game commits to its dice before the first roll, and you can re-check every roll yourself.
Fair-play checksGem challenges pay out only after an engine check, and organizers review anything unusual.
A friendly tableChats are monitored. Reported members are investigated, and membership is ended for policy violations.
Gems and Laurels have no cash value and can't be redeemed for cash. Gems are never staked on Backgammon, and online Backgammon is always points only. Gem stakes in Chess are limited to members 18 or older playing from Texas, up to 100 Gems a game and 300 a day. New here? Join free and sign in with the same account on both sites.
