Sergey Kajakin didn’t pose any serious problems for Ding Liren in the last round and barely managed to save the draw after making what he called “a terrible blunder”. Mamedyarov also tried hard but failed to come up with anything against Vladimir Kramnik and that game ended in a draw too. This put Fabi in very comfortable position, and even a draw would secure the Tournament victory.
Showing terrific form in this last round Fabi played a fantastic game and didn’t settle for a draw. Grischuk made some inaccuracies and Fabi didn’t let them go unpunished. A superb end to the tournament for Fabi with wins in the last two rounds. This victory puts a first American challenger to the World Championship since Bobby Fischer!
